Hi! I'm Erika.

I'm a certified low vision therapist experienced in diverse education and medical settings, who specializes in a holistic approach to low vision. I use a private-pay, coaching model that integrates evidence-based practice and nervous system regulation strategies to support adults with vision loss and families of children with visual impairment. My client services are available online without geographic restrictions, and in-person in Greater Denver and Fort Collins. I also provide professional education and consulting services.

The Collaborative

How It Began

”Erika, if you have a question about something in a journal article, you can always write to the authors,” my then graduate school advisor, Dr. Anne L. Corn, encouraged me in one of our many discussions in which I peppered her with questions about whatever topic I was doing a deep dive on at the time. Mentorship, camaraderie, and curiosity have remained joys throughout my nearly twenty-five years serving in our field. As a low vision therapist accustomed to working in multidisciplinary settings, but now in private practice, I have had to get creative about finding opportunities for deep dives with other low vision providers.

Recently, after years of pining, I was finally able to attend the 19th annual Low Vision Rehab Study Group (2024), hosted by the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. The agenda opened with each attendee sharing something they had learned over the past year, followed by discussions on practice and research topics. While there, I wondered what it might look like to participate in an online community where providers from across disciplines could benefit from the same type of experience throughout the year. I also imagined the impact-potential of inviting professionals newer to the field into conversations that might leapfrog them to a deeper understanding of the science and art in our practice. The Low Vision Beyond the Clinic Collaborative is my interpretation of an intimate, supportive online space for experiencing a culture of camaraderie and curiosity while discussing nuanced low vision topics that evolve how we practice.

Low vision is complex; collaborative connection can be pivotal to thriving as a provider.

Many low vision providers are solo practitioners or have clinic schedules with little time for camaraderie and inquiry, but long for a greater sense of connection and inspiration. The Low Vision Beyond the Clinic Collective offers supportive, online gatherings to deep dive with providers from across disciplines on low vision topics that impact our practice.
